Cedar Rapids Museum of Art to display The Nazi Drawings from April 18 - October 3, 2004

The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art (CRMA) will exhibit the complete Nazi Drawings series in the Lasansky Galleries from April 18 to October 3, 2004.

Almost forty years ago, Mauricio Lasansky completed a series of monumental drawings depicting the horror of the Holocaust. The 30 works and one large triptych, which took Lasansky 6 years to complete, have been exhibited in Museums across the country. This exhibit will be the first time since 1997 that the drawings have been on view, and the first time they have ever been displayed in Cedar Rapids. An opening reception for the exhibit will be held on "Holocaust Remembrance Day" (Sunday, April 18) from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Phillip Lasansky, the artist's son and Art Director at The Lasansky Galleries in Iowa City, will make some opening remarks at 3:00 p.m. The reception is open to the public. The CRMA is located at 410 Third Avenue in Cedar Rapids.

The CRMA exhibit is generously sponsored by Thaler Holocaust Memorial Fund, John Lipsky and Zsuzsanna Karasz in honor of Joan and Abbott Lipsky and Dr. Jim and Paula Levett. The Nazi Drawings series is on loan to the CRMA from The University of Iowa Museum of Art, from the Richard S. Levitt Foundation, Des Moines, IA.
